MY JOURNEY

My name is Łukasz Zięba, I’m originally from Kraków, Poland, and I’ve had quite a journey through the world of dance. From a young age I trained gymnastics and have always loved sports. After falling in love with dance at the age of 16 and studying dance for only a few years I graduated from the Krakow Academy of Dance in 2012, and that same year, I won the Best Solo Award at the Dance World Cup in Villach, Austria. Shortly after, I moved to New York City to study at The Ailey School on a full scholarship.

Since 2014, I’ve been dancing with The Metropolitan Opera. For 2015/2016 season, I joined the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, where I had the privilege of performing works by Jiri Kylian, Cayetano Soto, Jorma Elo, Fernando Melo, and Alejandro Cerrudo. In the past I have worked with companies like Company XIV, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Emery Lecrone Dance, and LED Boise.

These days, I’m based in New York City, teaching dance, raising my son, performing at The Metropolitan Opera and working as an independent artist.

As far as my choreographic work goes, in 2015, I had the opportunity to choreograph for the Polish show "So You Think You Can Dance," where I also placed second as a dancer back in 2009. I’ve presented my works at festivals across the USA, Hong Kong, France, Mexico, and Poland. In June 2018, I was part of the Hong Kong International Choreography Festival, where I created and performed "human chromosome #2." My short film "Rebirth" (2020), created from the Creative Scholarship of Krakow, has been recognized at several international film festivals. I am a co-funder of ACE Dance Concept, a contemporary dance and film company.

I study indigenous sacred traditions from around the world, which continues to open new doorways in my life. With a desire to foster peace and harmony, I now offer sound healing meditations and workshops, helping others develop a more holistic and connected way of navigating life.

Fun fact: My passion outside of dance is building science and woodworking. In fact I hold an AAS in Green Building Technology from SUNY Sullivan, as well as I am a certified LEED Associate. I dedicate a portion of my time to continuously educate my self in this field and hone my skills.
